Regards sur la Corée

À l'occasion des 20 ans de l'Université de La Rochelle, l'Association Culturelle et Sportive Corée investit le hall de la Faculté des Langues, Lettres, Arts et Sciences Humaines, le jeudi 28 mars 2013 de 10h à 19h pour sensibiliser le public à la culture coréenne. Au programme pour petits et grands : conférence, exposition photos, dégustation de nourriture coréenne, ateliers découverte (initiation au coréen et à des jeux culturels) et enfin pour clôturer la journée, la diffusion du film "Secret Reunion (interdit aux - de 12 ans)".

Dans le cadre du séminaire du Centre de Recherches sur la Corée (CRC), et de son cycle "cinéma coréen et sciences sociales", je présenterai une conférence intitulée "Welcome to... Korea : l'imaginaire de l'Autre dans le cinéma sud-coréen de l'ère de la Sunshine Policy (1998-2008)" agrémentée d'extraits de films.
Elle aura lieu de 14h à 16h dans la salle des séminaires au rdc ou dans le Grand Salon au 1er étage de la Maison de l’Asie, 22 avenue du Président Wilson, Paris 16ème, le 5 avril 2013. Métro : Iena (ligne 9) ou Trocadero (ligne 6). Bus : 82, 92, 63.

As tensions rise once again on the Korean peninsula, this book looks back on the decade of improved inter-Korean relations and engagement between 1998 and 2008, now known as the ‘Sunshine Policy’ era. Moving beyond traditional economic and political perspectives, it explores how this decade of intensified cooperation both affected and reshaped existing physical, social and mental boundaries between the two Koreas, and how this ‘de-bordering’ and ‘re-bordering’ has changed the respective attitudes towards the other.

Based around three key themes, ‘Space’, ‘People’, and ‘Representations’, this book looks at the tangible and intangible areas of contact created by North-South engagement during the years of the Sunshine Policy. ‘Space’ focuses on the border regions and discusses how the border reflects the dynamics of multiple types of exchanges and connections between the two Koreas, as well as the new territorial structures these have created. ‘People’ addresses issues in human interactions and social organizations, looking at North Korean defectors in the South, shifting patterns of North-South competition in the ‘Korean’ diaspora of post-Soviet Central Asia, and the actual and physical presence of the Other in various social settings. Finally, ‘Representations’ analyses the image of the other Korea as it is produced, circulated, altered/falsified and received (or not) on either side of the Korean border.

The contributors to this volume draw on a broad spectrum of disciplines ranging from geography, anthropology and archaeology, to media studies, history and sociology, in order to show how the division between North and South Korea functions as an essential matrix for geographical, social and psychological structures on both sides of the border. As such, this book will appeal to students and scholars from numerous fields of study, including Korean studies, Korean culture and society, and international relations more broadly.

I have uploaded 27 datasheets with information about the movies that I study for my research project about the imaginary of the Other in Korean cinema (1998-2010). The datasheets include a short synopsis, information about the cast, production, diffusion, ranking, etc.

This article should be published in English in 2013.

Le colloque d'automne de la CFAF porte sur le thème du visage (université Sookmyung, Séoul, samedi 5 novembre). J'y ai été invité à faire une présentation sur la "lecture anthropologique de l'imaginaire du visage". Ma présentation commencera à 14h40.
